2010 WRTC South America: Age Trumps Youth As LU1EWL Leads SA #2; PY2NY Keeps A #1 Lead Over PY8AZT Focusing on Single operator efforts, a veteran Argentine contester is now at the top of the WRTC qualifying heap in the SA #2 qualifying region, as Jorge "The big news about Jorge LU1EWL is that he doesn't use SSB contests for his WRTC score," said Alberto Silva LU1DZ, who runs the WWSA Contest. "Jorge is a 'paper and pencil' contester," Silva added, a retired meteorology expert with the Argentine Air Force. In the Brazilian battle, no one garnered more points in the ARRL DX tests than Santos PY2NY, as he used single op efforts to grab 523 WRTC points in ARRL CW and a full 620 in ARRL SSB, boosting his lead. Santos leads Luciano Moreira PY8AZT (now PT7AG) by 764 points. Moreira earned 434 in ARRL CW and 496 in ARRL SSB as part of the ZY7C Multi-op team, but that left him further behind. He now trails by 268 points. Still, Moreira has the chance to overtake Santos, as PY2NY is already at his max of eight qualifying scores, while PY8AZT has only seven total scores so far. Under the 2010 WRTC rules, one team leader qualifies from each of South America's two regions, making these contests all the more important for the top operators in each region. Here are the top five operators from SA #1 as found by radio-sport.net. A full spreadsheet link for each region is available. SA #1 is Brazil. PY2NY 4,972 - (8 scores) PY8AZT 4,704 - (7 scores) PT7CB 3,919 - (6 scores) PT7CG 2,872 - (4 scores) PY2ZXU 2,855 - (5 scores) Check out the full results spreadsheet for SA #1 SA #2 is all of South America outside of Brazil. LU1EWL 2,738 - (8 scores) LU1FAM 2,706 - (6 scores) LU7HN 2,584 - (6 scores) LU4DX 2,548 - (6 scores) LU5DX 2,402 - (7 scores) Check out the full results spreadsheet for SA #2 The unofficial results produced by radio-sport.net include the final published results of the 2006 IARU, the 2006 WAE CW and WAE SSB, the 2006 the CQ WW CW and SSB contests, the 2007 ARRL DX SSB & CW, the 2007 Russian DX, 2007 WAE CW contests, the 2007 CQ WPX SSB & CW tests, and the 2008 ARRL DX contests. (Radio-sport.net has tried to be as accurate as possible. If you find a mistake, or that your score line is missing a contest result, please send us an email and we will be happy to check and correct the numbers.) Please remember that it is your responsiblity to track your progress and submit your score to the WRTC sponsors. The qualifying rules allow you to submit your top eight scores from certain contests. No more than four may be from multi-operator efforts. You will note that some scores in the spreadsheets have been colored in. All multi-ops are noted with a yellow background. Scores from a contest operation outside of your home WRTC region are colored in blue. A score that was both outside your home region and from a multi-op has a purple color. The qualifying rules stipulate that no more than four of your eight best scores can come from a multi-operator effort - AND no more than four of your scores can be from outside your "home" region. On the far right of the spreadsheet, some stations have a list of how many multi-op scores and how many are DX. It is mainly noted for those who are over the limit or close to it.
